FAQ

Is RTM the same as telehealth?

No, Remote Therapeutic Monitoring RTM) is considered a separate service and could be complementary to any telehealth you provide. RTM can be billed separately and is not encounter based.

What are the patient qualifications for RTM?

Per your care focus, KangarooHealth helps you qualify eligibility for your patients. General guidelines include:

• Most patients enrolled in RTM have a musculoskeletal condition, chronic pain or need post-surgery MSK monitoring.
• RTM program members should have a prior management and / or evaluation relationship with their provider, either in person or via telehealth.
• Patients may not be currently enrolled in another RTM program.

Is there any patient out of pocket expense for this program?

• Many patients have $0 out of pocket expenses.
• Depending on insurance plans, some patients may have minimum financial responsibility such as co-pays. 
• KangarooHealth will contact the patient with an estimate of their copay for approval prior to final enrollment in the program. 

Can a patient be enrolled in RTM and another remote care program?

Patients can only be enrolled in one RTM program by a provider at any given time. During patient enrollment, KangarooHealth confirms with patients that they are not already enrolled in a RTM program.

Patients enrolled in RTM can also enroll in either a Chronic Care Management (CCM) or Principal Care Management (PCM) program through KangarooHealth, which could help improve outcomes for patients with comorbidities and are billed separately through different CPT codes.

How intuitive is the program for senior patients?

Very! Our expert clinical monitoring staff members become a trusted coach to help seniors get familiar with our patient app, and once they are in the app people of all ages find it very easy to use. We also communicate with patients using the channel they prefer, including phone, SMS, or in-app messaging.

Do providers have monthly requirements for a patient in RTM?

• There is no provider obligation for patients in RTM.
• Providers have access to the real-time patient data and risk stratification, as well as monthly clinical reports in our RTM platform any time.
• Either your staff, or KangarooHealth’s remote monitoring support, is in contact with your enrolled patients to encourage compliance and timely check-ins. Your staff is alerted only when necessary based on risk stratification alerts, and only during providers' office hours.

How secure is patient data?

KangarooHealth takes patient data security very seriously. Our platform utilizes HIPAA-compliant  servers and KangarooHealth is SOC2 certified. We adhere to all industry best practices on incident management, database security, and privacy.

What are the RTM CPT codes? What is the reimbursement rate?

RTM Reimbursement: $105-$187 Per Patient Per Month

Medicare & Medicare Advantage: all cover RTM. 
Commercial Plans: many cover RTM, and their reimbursements rates are typically 50% higher than Medicare.

When do reimbursements begin?

Our customers usually receive their first monthly reimbursement within 30-45 days of their first submission to commercial insurance or Medicare.

Who handles the billing? Who gets the reimbursements?

Providers are required to submit the reimbursement claims to payors. KangarooHealth provides monthly summary reports for your team’s reference. 
We do have full revenue cycle support available upon request.
All reimbursement goes directly to the provider.

What types of insurance cover RTM?

RTM is covered by Medicare, Medicare Advantage and most commercial health plans.

Is RTM encounter based?

No, RTM is not encounter based. It does not change the number of therapy visits a patient is eligible to have.

KangarooHealth can have your program up and running within two weeks. We have a streamlined onboarding process that involves just 2-3 hours of training time required by your staff.

How long does it take to enroll a new patient?

Referring patients only takes a few clicks if we’ve completed a simple integration with your EMR. If your staff is using the KangarooHealth platform for referrals it typically takes less than 1 minute. 

KangarooHealth does the verification of insurance and patients can usually begin using the app within 24-48 hours after referral.
