The recent government shutdown has raised questions for healthcare providers about Medicare coverage, telehealth, and billing. Here’s what you need to know about how it affects Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Chronic Care Management (CCM) services.

The recent government shutdown has raised understandable concerns across the healthcare sector, especially for clinics and providers delivering Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) and Chronic Care Management (CCM). We want to provide clarity and reassurance as you continue supporting your patients.

Medicare remains operational.

Medicare is considered a "mandatory" program, which means reimbursement for RPM and CCM services will continue as usual. Claims billed under CPT codes such as 99454 and 99457 are still covered.

What may be affected?

While reimbursement remains intact, the shutdown may impact Medicare staffing levels. This could result in delays in claims processing and provider payments, but the services themselves remain billable and eligible.

Telehealth considerations.

Certain statutory restrictions on telehealth services outside of mental and behavioral health have also resumed as of October 1, 2025. Providers should review CMS guidance and consider appropriate steps, including the potential use of Advance Beneficiary Notices if necessary.

At KangarooHealth, we remain committed to helping our partners navigate these changes with confidence. We’ll continue to monitor developments and share updates to ensure your programs remain compliant and your patients receive uninterrupted support.

If you have questions about how this may impact your RPM or CCM services, our team is here to assist you.
